Privacy
Homie is a trading name of Homie Chat Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17246020. Registered office: 4 Park Crescent, London, HA3 6EW.
Homie Chat Ltd is the data controller for the information described here. To ask us anything about it, email [email protected].
This policy covers visiting homiechat.app and using Homie itself.
If you only visit the website
We use privacy-friendly website analytics to count page views and see roughly where visitors come from. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across other sites, and doesn't collect anything that identifies you personally. There's nothing for you to consent to and no banner to dismiss.
If you email us to ask about access, we'll hold your email address so we can reply and let you know when there's a place. We use it for that and nothing else, and we won't send you marketing.
If you use Homie
Homie is currently in closed testing with a small invited group. It's free during this period.
What we collect
Directly from you:
- Your name, or whatever you'd like Homie to call you
- Your WhatsApp phone number
- Your timezone
- Your answers to the onboarding questionnaire
- The commitments you confirm — the things you tell Homie you're holding yourself to, stored in your own words
From your use of the service:
- The messages you send Homie, and the messages Homie sends you
- Short internal notes about recent context, generated automatically from your messages
- Technical records of when messages were sent and whether they were delivered
What we don't collect
No location data. No biometric data. No health, fitness or activity data from any external device, tracker or app — Homie has no connection to any of them. No photographs. No payment details, because Homie is free during testing.
What we use it for
To reply to you, to decide when it's worth messaging you, and to run and maintain the service. Nothing else.
Lawful basis: consent. You agreed to take part and you can withdraw at any time.
Who sees your messages
Your messages are stored so that Homie works, and they're processed automatically — by the AI model that writes Homie's replies, and by a background process that keeps short notes of recent context.
They are not monitored and they are not routinely read. A person may access them where it's necessary to do so: to investigate a fault, to respond to something you've raised with us, to keep the service secure, or where the law requires it. During testing, that person is the founder.
Your messages are never sold, never shared for advertising, and never visible to other users — there is no feature that would allow it.
How Homie's replies are generated
Homie's replies are produced by a large language model supplied by Anthropic. When you message Homie, your message and a limited window of recent conversation are sent to Anthropic's API, a reply is generated, and it comes back to us and on to you.
Anthropic processes this as our processor, on our instructions, and does not use it to train their models.
We don't build the model and we don't control how it behaves. We choose which model to use and we write the instructions that shape how Homie talks, but the underlying model is Anthropic's and its behaviour can change when they update it. See the Terms for what that means for you in practice.
Third parties
We use third-party service providers to run Homie. They process your information on our behalf, under contract, and only to deliver their part of the service. The categories are:
- Cloud hosting and database providers
- AI model providers
- Messaging and telecommunications providers
- Survey and form tools
- Website hosting and analytics providers
Some of these are based outside the UK. Where your information is transferred internationally, it's covered by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision.
We don't sell your information and we don't share it with advertisers.
Homie reaches you over WhatsApp, which is operated by Meta. Meta's own terms and privacy policy apply to how messages are handled on their platform.
If you want to know which specific providers we use, email us and we'll tell you.
How long we keep it
While you're using Homie, we keep your messages and the notes generated from them — Homie's sense of recent context depends on them.
If you leave, or ask us to delete your information, we delete it within 30 days. That covers messages, notes, commitments, your name and your phone number.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the information we hold about you
- Correct anything that's wrong
- Delete it
- Provide it in a portable format
- Stop or restrict processing it
Email [email protected]. We'll respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information and we haven't put it right, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office — ico.org.uk, or 0303 123 1113.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Records of your messages and activity are keyed to a random internal identifier rather than to your name or number. Access is limited to those who need it to run the service; during testing, that is one person.
No system is perfectly secure. If something goes wrong in a way that affects you, we'll tell you.
Children
Homie is for adults. It isn't designed for or directed at anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from under-18s.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant and you're using Homie, we'll let you know.
